Description, duties, responsibilities

CMU is seeking a highly efficient, experienced and dynamic candidate to serve as a Student Services Officer. In this role, the Student Services Officer will be responsible for coordinating and implementing a student support services program that ensures students receive a holistic educational experience throughout the degree program that addresses their professional, social and personal needs. S/he will also assist in the development and implementation of different activities and events for the students, on and off campus, that cater to the diverse student population represented at CMU in Rwanda.

Essential Functions

Work closely with the student guild to remain informed on the interests and needs of the student body

Design and implement of programs/initiatives to meet the needs of the student body

Provide one-on-one support for students and refer them for professional help if required

Mamage orientation preparation for students, and coordinate non-academic orientation activities

Manage the student activity calendar

Coordinate the exchange program activities for students spending a semester in Pittsburgh, and students coming to Kigali from Pittsburgh

Maintain student records, track the changes in academic status and account activity

Maintain up-to-date contact information on students, emergency/next-of-kin information, etc.

Collect requests for student jobs and match students with supervisors

Collect requests for sponsorship for conferences and coordinate travel arrangements for students

Prepare the academic calendar in coordination with the Associate Director of Academic Affairs

Coordinate the collection of applications for financial aid and provide a first round of analysis to the financial aid selection committee

Act as the focal point for coordinating distance/online courses being offered from other campuses

Requirements and Skills

  • A Bachelor's degree

  • Five or more years of experience in relevant areas such as student services, communications, event management, etc.

  • Fluency in English is compulsory

  • Intermediate level experience with MS Excel

  • Experience with basic desktop publishing tools

  • Excellent technical writing and public speaking skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Preferred qualification : A Master’s Degree

  • Preferred qualification : Relevant work experience with international organizations

  • Preferred qualification : Familiarity with the U.S. higher education system
