About REG-EDCL

REG is a company that Generates and distributes power in Rwanda. As a national utility, the company has been in existence since 1976, as ELECTROGAZ. ELECTROGAZ was founded in 1939 as “REGIDESO” by the colonial masters supplying water, electricity and gas to RWANDA-URUNDI with its Headquarters in Bujumbura. The company was later divided into REGIDESO Rwanda and REGIDESO Burundi in 1963. In 1976, REGIDESO Rwanda became ELECTROGAZ and was granted the monopoly for the production and distribution of water and electricity in the country. After the 1994 genocide, there was an increase in urban settlements, thus increased demand for water and electricity. The installed capacity for water and electricity supply could not sustain the increased demand, which called for further investments.

Description, duties, responsibilities

To raise awareness of REG’s work and development activities, and increase its profile by promoting its activities through the appropriate public relations programs, media and communications channels

Communications and Public Relations

1 Drive public relations strategy that is integrated with the broader REG Public Relations plan to advance the company's branding and awareness initiatives

2 Proactively develop internal and external crises communications and issue management guidelines and processes that can be used to quickly develop and execute crisis communication plans

3 Work with management and department staff to establish best practice guidelines for optimizing news for online distribution (traditional and social media)

4 Develop communications platforms, strategies and compelling messages that support REG brand, business objectives and company leadership

5 Maintain relevant statistics and information relating to the overall operation of REG

6 Write press releases, pitch stories, coordinate media visits, and update pertinent social media sites

Risk Management and Compliance

7 Monitor and distribute REG media coverage and other press coverage relating to the development works

8 Manage media enquiries and uphold the reputation of REG

Relationship Building and Management

9 Maximize awareness of the services of the EDCL and Utility Companies, in collaboration with the Corporate Communications Manager

10 Develop and maintain positive relationships with all vendors and media partners to help achieve Public Relations development and other departmental targets

Requirements and Skills

  • • Bachelor’s Degree (A0) in Business Administration, Commerce, Marketing or a partial professional qualification in Marketing, Public Relations and; • At least 3 years of experience in Marketing or Public Relations role OR Technical Diploma in Marketing with 10 years’ experience in Corporate Communications, Public Relations or Marketing
