Description, duties, responsibilities

CMU is seeking a dynamic candidate to serve as a Recruitment Officer, that can provide strategic leadership in recruiting the best African students from the continent, and advising applicants through CMU-R’s rigorous admissions process. S/he will be responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive student recruitment strategy and measuring the effectiveness of student recruitment initiatives. S/he will work closely with the faculty admissions committee through the admissions process, and also with the marketing and branding team to ensure recruitment goals are embedded in the overall marketing strategy. The activities in this role change over the year as we move through different phases of the cycle.

Essential Functions

10% Strategic Planning: Meet with CMU stakeholders to set goals and determine target markets and specific recruiting activities for those markets. Determine the personnel and resources needed for recruiting activities. Coordinate planning with communication and marketing to develop appropriate recruiting materials. Develop a recruiting calendar and planning tool for communicating activities with other stakeholders. Meet regularly with leadership and produce periodic reports tracking recruiting activities and progress.

15% Indirect Recruiting: Work with CMU leadership to communicate and meet with leaders in ministries, companies, embassies, and universities to raise awareness of the CMU opportunity. Identify sources of contacts for top students, such as lists of top graduates or recommendations from current students. Work with faculty to distribute recruiting materials among peers at other academic institutions and at professional conferences. Maintain a database of key contacts in target universities. Meet with CMU faculty, staff, and students to identify additional recruiting opportunities.

25% Online Recruiting: Develop email, social media, and website tools to collect contact information for targeted markets. Track effectiveness of specific tools and use analytics to evolve activities over time. Identify contacts for further communication and cultivation. Liaise with IT staff to support online activities. Work with faculty to develop mechanisms to pre-qualify applicants. Meet regularly with communication and marketing to coordinate online marketing and recruiting activities.

20% Direct Recruiting: Plan and execute recruiting events in and outside of Rwanda. Identify key meetings and venues for information sessions or other innovative activities. Coordinate with faculty and students who will support these activities. Develop tools to qualify, collect, and track contacts. Develop in conjunction with communication and marketing presentations, banners, handouts, giveaways, and other materials to be used at recruiting events.

25% Supporting and Cultivating Applicants: Work with applicants to be sure they collect all necessary materials. Communicate with incomplete applicants to guide them toward a completed application. Develop tools to track incoming applicants and communicate the status to other stakeholders. Coordinate recruiting activities with the admissions process.

5% Training and Development: In coordination with supervisor, take online courses and participate in training events to develop skillsets necessary for the job and growth in the organization.

Requirements and Skills

  • Fluency in English is compulsory

  • Knowledge of social media and other web marketing technologies (e.g. targeting Facebook posts and Google analytics)

  • Intermediate level experience with MS Excel

  • Experience with basic desktop publishing tools

  • Preferred qualifications : A Master’s Degree

  • Preferred qualification: Relevant work experience with international organizations

  • Preferred qualification: Familiarity with the U.S. higher education system

  • Preferred qualification : Experience using CRM systems such as Salesforce
